As we were touching down at Warsaw airport the captain came on to announce it was -16° C. Granted it never got quite that cold again the temperature in Poland has been a stark difference from our destinations thus far. Although the weather was shocking, the endless homemade food and desert gave us the comfort we needed. Warsaw was a truly remarkable city, as it was rebuilt completely to image its former self, prior to destruction in WWII. Krakow also beckoned to the past with its bars and restaurants in the former cellars of the buildings above. With the childhood stories of Skarżysko-Kamienna and the beauty of Sandomierz, the small Polish towns were another remarkable addition to our time in the cold. As our European travel chapter comes to a quick end, although we will miss getting spoiled with food and family, we are eager to start the next journey of our trip.
